about latentrhythms
whenever a drummer makes music, there are latent or unseen rhythmic patterns that occur, but never get captured. they are the movements the drummer's sticks or brushes make on his/her drums and cymbals. of course we hear the sound, the result of these movements, but we never get to see the patterns themselves, because they disappear immediately.
latentrhythms capture this phenomenon through the means of a drummer's set of tools used to apply paint on canvas. A piece of music is selected and then is played with drumsticks, brushes, mallets on the canvas with acrylic paint...the same thing that would normally be played on the drums. the result is as unique as each musical composition...no two are alike.
this is truly a new form of multimedia: the process that usually produces sound, in this case produces visual art. the possibilities are only dictated by the music.
about me

i'm a musician/artist in the denver metro area, specializing in jazz and jazz-influenced art. i've been playing jazz since age nine, having been influenced by my father, himself a jazz musician.
my goal in latentrhythms is to take myself out of the process as much as possible, letting the music dictate the end result. in my own paintings and in the classes that i teach, i want to get outside the box of how we normally create art...to let the musician part of me create on canvas.
